Think of it as Matisse with less reverence and better instincts. Hang it in a kitchen or dining room that already has personality: painted cabinets, tiled splashbacks, a busy dresser of glassware. It pulls a room together by giving every other colour permission to be louder. Sits well above a sideboard, between two windows in a dining nook, or over a small breakfast table. Pair with hand-glazed ceramics, striped linens and warm timber. Avoid sleek minimalist rooms with cool grey walls — the colours need warmth to sing.
