Because Monet knew restraint, the deep green hits harder here. The river does most of the work — broken light on water, a quiet crowd on the pontoon, trees pressing in from behind.

Put it on a wall and the room slows down. The greens settle into anything wooden, the cream takes the edge off whiter walls, and the flickers of yellow keep it from going cold in the evenings.
