We like abstract painting best when it comes with a little abrasion. There's yellow, soft pink, sky blue and deep green here, pushed about with a palette knife so the surface feels alive rather than tidy. Hang it in a room that's gone a bit too quiet — a pale living room, a cream-walled bedroom, a hallway with nothing happening — and the whole space picks up. Best at eye level above a low sofa or sideboard, with a metre or so of breathing room on either side. Pairs well with linen, oak and ceramics in soft, off-white tones. Don't crowd it with other busy artworks; this one wants to do the talking. Printed on heavyweight fine-art paper that holds the colour cleanly.
