With butterflies, scale decides whether the bedroom wakes up. Two winged shapes, drawn in the Japanese Rinpa tradition, sit lightly on a warm off-white ground — one in deep blue and soft green, the other in purple and teal. Hang it above a low bed or a slim console and the room gains a quiet centrepiece without turning loud. It works best on a chalky off-white or soft grey wall, at eye level, where the pattern can be read up close. Pair with pale oak or walnut timber, linen bedding, a stoneware lamp and a small trailing plant. Keep near neighbours calm: soft botanicals, quiet abstracts, or nothing at all. Avoid crowding it with bold florals or high-contrast graphics that fight the fine linework.
